The actions that caught my attention where the efforts the coordinators gave for the volunteers to make sure they met their needs and wants. For example Suri, met a small group of break dancers. He was thoughtful enough inform the guys about myself, and suggested that they should meet up with me and practice sometime. That way I would spend my free time doing something productive instead of sleeping and waiting for the weekend, It was very generous of him. He also made sure that the Uvolunteers where happy at their placement he would come visit us at our placements.
On my arrival in Costa Rica I was placed in the incorrect job placement. I made sure Suri was aware of the misunderstanding, so he informed Meaw about the situation and she responded quickly and switched my placement over to a small orphanage known as Hogarcito. The job was more challenging, but it was worth it to see the children’s smiling faces. Fiorella grabbed my attention when she invited me and Ekta to have either dinner or go dancing, for our first Saturday night in San Ramon. Through out my whole stay she would always invite the volunteers to her university parties and more.
Above all uVolunteer was truly a helping hand. I would recommend this program to others, but just make sure that the volunteers know what they want and are willing to work hard for it.
