I choose to volunteer in Costa Rica with uVolunteer while on a coop with my University in Canada as an opportunity to try something different. I volunteered in three different placements while in Costa Rica including working at a National Park, turtle conservation, and the Natural Reserve. Before arriving in Costa Rica Ligia and Tasha insured all my questions were answered, making me feel confident and comfortable.
After completing one-week Spanish school while living with a Home Stay in San Jose, Ligia thoroughly explained my transportations between projects and provided more detail regarding my responsibilities while at the project sites.
While at the National Park, I was in contact with Ligia and she made sure all my concerns where addressed promptly.
I loved working in the turtle conservation project. There I meet people from all over the world who were all welcoming and respectful of one another in our small accommodations.
I was given a detailed orientation regarding the life of the turtles and nesting cycle and was given educational material so I was better prepared to answer questions from inquiring tourists.
After several weeks I moved to San Ramon to volunteer in the Natural Reserve. Here I worked alongside another volunteer. We helped with general park maintenance as well as taking care of the Butterfly Garden. The environmental conservation project is a short and inexpensive bus ride away from the dorms in San Ramon.
Working only four days a week gave me the opportunity to travel to the beach and various attractions in the country. At the weekly meetings Ligia and Nohelia helped me to plan weekend trips and always provided helpful traveling advice.
Overall I loved my stay in Costa Rica! Volunteering with uVolunteer was an amazing experience that allowed me to experience different areas of the country in a more intimate way.
I would fully recommend volunteering abroad to Costa Rica with uVolunteer if you are passionate about having new experiences, immersing yourself in another culture, and helping the environment and others.
