We talked a lot about our families growing up and what we want to do after college. When we arrived to the center, of course I got stuck pushing the kids on the swings again. The kids have learned how to say “Push” in English. Derek and his good friend (I forgot his name) came over to push their little sisters Tamara and Hilary, respectively, on the swings. I have observed that the older brothers take really good care of their younger sisters.
I could tell that the boys wanted to play with the kids their age, but their first responsibility was to make sure their sisters were safe.
I offered to watch over their sisters I would watch their little sisters while they played basketball. Throughout the day the brothers kept coming back to check on their sisters.
I took the girls to sing songs and play on the playground. To my surprise, Hilary, who can barely talk, was very independent and wanted to climb up all of the playground equipment on her own but Tamara wouldn’t do it without help from me… It was a shorter day because Jenna and I had to leave at 3:00pm for the uVolunteer staff meeting. I didn’t have any complaints about the project! I feel really fortunate to have this experience.
