It was very helpful. I have taken Spanish classes in the United States for several years now, and we almost never just sit and have conversations with our classmates in Spanish. Especially in college, the majority of the time that we speak in my class it was just to answer a simple question or explain reading from some old Spanish literature. We would not learn how to apply the language, practicing useful conversations or how to pronounce words. I know now that the only way to fully learn how to speak a language is to go abroad and immerse yourself in it! Anyways, I digress….
After our Spanish class, Nicole and I decided to take an impromptu trip to the beach at Puntarenas! It was fun traveling in a foreign country for the first time and having to take the bus. When we finally arrived at our stop in Puntarenas, we went to a local Soda (a small restaurant that serves local Costa Rican food). Nicole had a fruit salad, and I ordered the Super Churchill just because I saw it on somebody else’s table and thought it looked delicious.
And boy, was I right!!! It came with a drink and a bowl of fruit. I still don’t even know exactly what was in this drink. I believe ice cream, condensed milk, and another layer of shaved ice with syrup that tasted almost like cotton candy to me.
Whatever it was, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! It made the whole trip worthwhile for me because the actual beach of Puntarenas was kind of disappointing.
I was told it is usually nice and clean, but when we went there had just been a big storm that washed up a lot of trash and driftwood onto the beach. It was also very cloudy, but I still came back with a tan, which was nice. I can’t wait to travel even further next week hopefully to one of the beautiful, sunny beaches that Costa Rica is known for!
